How to search for a Keyword

How to search for KeywordsWhat is Keyword or Keyword Phrase

I have talked about keyword and how it is part of your online marketing success. Although the content is the king, I would say keyword is the sidekick. I also call keyword the “Point of Entry” because you use a keyword as your search engine index. Let me give you an example If you search “Best diet pills” in google search bar, pages matching your search will appear. In this case  “Best diet pills” is the keyword, and google ranked the page listed in the result having content matching “best diet pills”. If you click on one of the pages that google gave you and read the article, you will notice that the post will include “best diet pills” in the content.  In essence, the keyword is the word or phrase that people use to search for information. How well you search for a keyword, understand keyword, and what keywords your customers will be using when they are looking for information is the key to organic traffic.

How to search for a keyword or keyword phrase

Now that we know what keyword is and how to use keywords, we need to find the right keywords or Long tail Keywords specific to our niche.  For now, we will stick with Diet pills as the chosen niche to help me explain and search for the right keywords. I will use Jaaxy as the tool to help me search for keywords. Jaaxy provides free 30 keyword searches when you sign up for their free membership. 30 searches will be more than enough to demonstrate and explain keyword, and for anyone to start their own keyword search.

Using the keyword search tool, all you have to do is type the search keyword or phrase that you think your customer will use. In our case, it is diet pills, so I used the search term “Best diet pills”.  The image below will show the result of the keyword along with essential information that we need. There are few key figures that we need to focus on, and these are Avg, Traffic, and QSR. Average is the Average traffic is the average number of searches that the keyword receives per month. Traffic is the number visit to your page if you achieve first-page ranking. QSR is the number of competing websites ranked in google for this exact keyword. To get rank easily we will need to use keywords with AVG >50 and QSR < 100. We also need to make sure that the keyword we need to use makes sense because we will use it in our post.

After few searches in Jaaxy, I finally found the keyword that we could use. Note that you will need more than keyword to target to rank easily and in different keywords.  Based on Jaaxy’s result the best keyword we could use is “Top diet pills that really work”. The keyword shows 460 Average searches with QSR of 30. That is a really good find and keyword to use. We could easily rank higher if we use this keyword properly and provide a quality content. Remember that ultimately content is the king so we need to provide a great content.

How to use SEO Keyword

Now that we know the keyword that we are going to target, we can focus on the content that we will write. In my original post on guide to online marketing, I mentioned that we need to strategically place keywords and that we do not over stuff keyword in our content. Google algorithm is smart enough to avoid content with keyword stuffing, and google will penalize sites that over stuff content with keywords. So be very careful when you write your content. In general target one keyword per post, and if possibly include your target keyword in the first paragraph. If appropriate, using your keyword as a header will definitely help too, but remember that your control should flow naturally. So try out jaaxy and start looking for that keyword that will help you get to page 1 rank in google.

As always I wish everyone more success!. Also use the comments section below if you have any questions. I hope that this short explanation about keyword will help you with your online business and achieve more success.

Generally, how many times would you list a keyword/phrase within a post or page without overdoing it? Other than in the title or first paragraph. How much is too much in your opinion?

This is something I am trying to learn about. I have a lot of content, just want keyword mastery but without overdoing it.

There is a rule that your keyword should only be 2-5% of your total content, not everyone follows this but it is a good guide. I would say too much will be adding a keyword in every paragraph and even multiple times in a paragraph. Google algorithm can easily determine if you are over keyword stuffing your content. The last thing you want is google penalizing you or putting your site in the sandbox. Hope this help! Have a great day!

I like how you put it! Content is King but the keyword is the sidekick! And it’s so true! Content means nothing if you do not have a keyword that 1) people are looking for and 2) Google will rank. As they say, a hero is no good without his sidekick! The right keyword may be a little hard to find though, especially if you are looking for high traffic with low competition but I guess it is all worth it. I find that you give a very good explanation of keywords and this will help a lot of people understand the subject, especially me. Thank you for this post!

Thank you for the kind words. I was always looking for that keyword with high traffic yet low competition, then I realized that I could settle for a small piece of a pie. Meaning find that keyword with the good amount of traffic with less competition. Thank you for stopping by and leaving a comment
